Florists’ Favorites- Organic Elements

Introducing a new regular feature – where I ask a master floral designer what their favorite flower is and why, and ask them to share a picture of one of their arrangements that used said flower to its full effect.

The first guest designer is the amazingly talented Sharon, owner of San Diego’s Organic Elements.  Her work has been featured in The Knot, Bride & Bloom, and countless other magazines.  Sharon generously gave me not one but THREE favorite flowers.  Here’s what she had to say:

Favorite flower for use: Dahlias- so unique and interesting, so So Cal, the colors are great and they fill up space making them cost effective.

Favorite flower for scent: White freesia, there’s just nothing like that smell.

Favorite flower for looks: Chocolate speckled lady slipper orchids, because only nature could come up with something that cool looking.

(*Trashy Floret Cadet note: Sharon is in good company with her love of Freesia- Chelsea Clinton’s groom Marc Mezvinsky and his groomsmen wore Freesia boutonnières, according to US Weekly)

This is Sharon’s bouquet, featuring Dahlias along with another of my all-time favorite flowers, Astilbe, with Poppy Pods, Celosia, and Parrot Tulips.  It is stunning and absolutely painterly.
