Painted Poppy Pods Are Next

OK so just as I start to wrap my head around spraypainted succulents, I spot a variation (and actually one I like more!) – the painted poppy pod

Today on Design Sponge’s floral design blog, Love ‘N Fresh Flowers presented this DIY tutorial for Valentine’s day.  Super cute (those initial mugs are everywhere on wedding blogs, but I love ’em anyhow), and easy to make.

p.s. wanted to add that Love N Fresh Flowers is a full service sustainable flower farm and floral design studio based in Philly – how cool is that? If it is not cool enough for you, how about this? They also offer regular workshops!

Full schedule after the jump, and listed here:

Backyard Bouquets
February 12th starting at 2 p.m.
Wyck Garden, 6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia

Join Love ‘n Fresh Flowers for an afternoon of fun flower talk to plan a productive and easy cutting garden for your home. Jennie Love , owner of Love ‘n Fresh Flowers and a professional horticulturist by training, will impart her secrets to success and give students a list of the best flowers to grow in our area and where to get them. Students will learn where to site their cutting garden, how to prepare the soil, when to plant, and how to care for the flowers as they grow. Even if you just have a deck and a few large pots, you have enough room to grow some beautiful flowers for making your own backyard bouquets.

If enough interest is shown, students will have the opportunity to participate in a bulk seed and/or perennial plug order to make planting a cutting garden more affordable.  Light refreshments and handouts will be provided. This lecture is limited to 18 people and tickets are $12 for Wyck members and $15 for non-members.    {SOLD OUT}

Springtime Hand-Tied
April 23rd starting at 2 p.m.
Wyck Garden, 6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia

This hands-on workshop will teach students the basic technique of creating a bouquet in their hand (versus a vase).  The “hand-tied” is a great foundation for any design as relaxed as a hostess gift or as formal as a bridal bouquet.  The flowers featured in this session will include the stunning stars of spring, including tulips, alliums, and ranunculus.  Ribbon for wrapping the stems will be provided.  Participants will take home their own creation.  Light refreshments will be provided.  Price for this workshop is $40 for Wyck members and $45 for non-members.

Waylaying Wedding Woes
Date TBD for a Saturday in June
Wyck Garden, 6026 Germantown Avenue

Wedding in your near or distant future? Wishing your budget would stretch further? Invest a little now by taking this workshop and save big on your florals and decor! Jennie, owner and head designer for Love ‘n Fresh Flowers, will walk students through all the basic pieces of wedding flowers, including the bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, a big focal piece, the cake, and centerpieces. She’ll share a general timeline that will help you figure out how to pace yourself when designing your own wedding flowers. Tips for keeping the flowers fresh and lovely will also be shared.

Students will have an opportunity to practice their skills and get help from Jennie in the last hour of the class. Basic supplies will be provided for use in class. If you have a specific element or container you would like help with incorporating into your dream design, please bring it along.
This class is also a great choice for floral designers interested in learning techniques for personal flowers. Love ‘n Fresh Flowers works with DIY brides to provide bulk flowers for their special day. Make sure to talk to Jennie after class about ordering yours.

A lite lunch and beverages will be provided. Feel free to pack a snack as well, if desired. Handouts and a complimentary pair of floral snips will also be provided. Bring a camera to take pictures of the demos to refer to later. Class is limited to 8.
