Since I’ve posted pretty much nothing but peonies so far this week, thought I’d just continue the trend!
My mom (and Mr. Floret Cadet’s sister) were each nice enough to house and dog sit for us for a week while we were on our honeymoon. It was so nice to know Aldo was well taken care of, in his own home, and it didn’t hurt that they saved us hundreds of dollars on boarding and also got a free place to stay for a vacation on the California coast – everybody won!
When hubby and I landed after a 27 hour voyage back complete with two separate 4 hour layovers, and the all too common finale of an hour on the tarmac in LA with no AC because a gate wasn’t available when we landed, we were not the happiest campers to say the least (we also both had to be back at work about 8 hours after we got home.)
My mom turned it around on a dime, for me at least, by greeting us with lit candles, a full fridge, and a counter full of PEONIES that she’d gotten at Trader Joe’s! I was so, so sad the Monday after the wedding when I had to toss out my wedding bouquet at the Newark airport, so getting another peony fix upon my return was the best treat ever, especially since they’re going, going, almost gone for the season!
After a few days of settling back in and letting the peonies open, I fashioned them into a color blocked bouquet using some trim I’ve been holding onto for a while, waiting for just the right flowers to wrap with it.
And finally here is a detail shot of the ribbon I used, it’s a funky wool knit over matte sequined lace that I picked up at LA’s branch of Mood Designer Fabrics.
