Honeymoon Flowers Post #2 – Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea is probably my favorite “on the loose” flower (I know, it’s a shrub, but that just doesn’t sound as nice!)  There are plenty of cut flower varieties that I adore, but in terms of encountering flowers outside in every day life in California, bougainvillea takes the cake.  Once it’s established, it grows almost like a weed along the sides of highways, up old buildings where it appears to have no water or even soil (the roots go *way* down to underground water sources).

But nothing around here has anything on the bougainvillea of Italy and Greece! It was absolutely massive and so bright.

The most impressive bougainvillea pic of the trip, featuring Mr. Floret Cadet, is first up.  The others are me with some more regular specimens ; )

janet - I was just down in Phoenix looking at houses and I could help but point out all the bougainvillea to my husband. He knew right away what I was thinking – “Hmmm… can I cut that for a bouquet?”
