Of my mega-stack of floral design books to review for you all, I chose my very favorite to be up to bat first! It is…
This is a perfect introductory floral design book in my opinion because it’s equal parts informative and inspirational. Without reading like a text book or being information overload, Jane walks you through the styles and techniques that would be of the most use to a modern beginning or DIY floral designer- no encyclopedic reference sections or painstakingly detailed how-to’s for completely archaic designs, just the info you’d need to get started on arrangements you might actually want to and be able to make.
This book is also well balanced between flowers for different purposes- giving, decorating the home, and wedding/event designs. She demonstrates one of each arrangement type (wired boutonniere, floral foam spheres, a grid design with tape, etc) and includes several inspirational photos beyond the demo case for each.
And of course, I also love the actual florals – they’re beautiful but not too avant garde or “platinum weddings” unobtainable.
I give this book 4 of 4 florets! Here is a peek inside, some of my favorite arrangements from the book:
