Clematis and Peony Wedding Bouquet

Wanted to share these pics of a bouquet I created for a Memorial Day weekend wedding.  The bride had a Victorian theme  with dusty mauves, light peaches and beiges and deeper rose/plum tones offset by a bright robin’s egg blue throughout.   To fit with the Victorian inspiration, I used some herbal elements in the wedding flowers.  The bride’s bouquet was made of Festiva Max peonies, plummy pink clematis, Lydia spray roses, Lizzy carnations, waxflower, and mint, tied with a Robin’s Egg blue velvet ribbon and accented with a vintage cameo.

Congratulations to Holly and Bryan!

Holly - Hi Kate!

Everyone loved their flowers so so much, thank you!

I don’t have the big photos back yet but here are a few small ones to show off how pretty they were and how much more gorgeous the photos were with your flowers in them!

Debbie Daking - You have a gift!! I just love your work. I am a freelance designer – new to L.A. – just joined the L.A. Flower Mart – not sure how it works really – any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do you go to one vendor mainly ? Do you special order flowers? I am dong a wedding in August – and wonder which vendor to buy from? Is one better than others?
thanks for sharing your beautiful work!

Kate - Thanks for reading and for your kind words Debbie! You can special order from some of the vendors but not from all. A lot of people I know special order from Mayesh for the core stuff they know they need an exact quantity of, and shop the mart for the special surprises or whatever looks best that day to finish it off. There are also other good places that take pre orders – Mellano, Holland Flower Mart are two others I know plenty of people pre order from. You will discover lots of “specialists” there too – there is one orchid vendor who is amazing, a couple of really good rose vendors who have better prices than the others and only sell roses, a great source for succulents, etc – it will be pretty obvious who those folks are when you walk around, I honestly don’t remember all of the vendor names! Choice Flowers has 2 locations on either side of the mart and will have some of the more obscure stuff in stock – they’re the only place I’ve seen stuff like blushing bride protea, and they were carrying astilbe and snowberries before they got really trendy and more commonly seen. For basics like stock or lisianthus, there are cheaper vendors that Mayesh – I usually shop the mart for that stuff if I’m confident it will be around, rather than ordering it. But Mayesh is the best bet there at the mart for Garden Roses as far as I know- and they carry clematis now. You don’t see them laying around anywhere else, though some of the other vendors may be able to pre order them for you. Hope this helps! Any other florists reading comments please feel free to chime in. I don’t always go downtown for flowers because there is a big Mayesh branch about a mile from my house! It’s hard to drag myself out in the dark as much as I LOVE the mart ; )
