Personals Only Wedding Preview

I recently created personal florals for a wedding to take place in LA’s beautiful Topanga Canyon.   The bride wanted a really textural, seasonal bouquet, tied in twine with reds, ivories and greens (and succulents were a must!)  I also created bouts and corsages and had a blast doing it. Here is the bouquet- it was made with several white and burgundy / red dahlia varieties, a stem of ornamental kale, succulents, ranunculus, burgundy spray roses, and geranium leaves.

Side note: this project fell under my new Designer’s Choice / budget friendly packages for weddings – they are straightforward “a la carte” prices, simple proposals with more flexibility left for me to pick the best seasonal varieties available, and designed for small weddings where a florist isn’t needed on site.  More info on how those packages work is located here.  I’m hoping to do some more of these in the months right after my baby comes, so please contact me if you are interested or know someone who is!

Baby Shower Flowers

I realized that I never posted pics here of the flowers I did for my own baby shower! We had a fun co-ed shower hosted by my friend Lori (of The Purple Tree Photography), and she took wonderful pics at the event to boot!

Because I think it’s fun to compare inspiration to reality, here is a shot of the Pinterest board I made before ordering the flowers.  I ended up not getting the celosia (color was too rusty in person w the other stuff), and subbing in anenomes for poppies, which were extremely anemic.   I picked up some geranium leaves on site, and finally added some beautiful pieris to my cart.  I think this is about the average degree of pre-planning and ordering vs on site substitutions and new inspirations that happens with my designs, and I wanted to share so clients can get an idea of the process.

And here are some shots of the finished designs.  By the way, “Pinguina” is our pre-natal nickname for our baby – she looked like a little Penguin on her 8 week ultrasound, with little arm buds just starting to form, and the name (Penguin in Italian) stuck : )

Katie - Lovely shower flowers! I’m curious what the little bell shaped white flowers with a slightly purple stem are called. It looks a little like Lily of the Valley to me, but the stem isn’t right for that. Thanks!

Kate - Thanks Katie! It’s Pieris Japonica, also known as Andromeda. Such pretty stuff when it’s in bloom
